Two majestic lions that travelled north from Wellington Zoo last week have been introduced to their new enclosure at Auckland Zoo where they were born.
TVNZ1's Seven Sharp reports it's been a huge effort to have half brothers Zulu and Malik safely returned to Auckland Zoo which they left as youngsters 14 years ago.
The enclosure the lions are in is the same one their ageing and ailing mothers Kura and Amira lived in before zoo staff made the heart-wrenching decision to have them euthanised almost three months ago.
Auckland Zoo carnivores team leader Lauren Booth said Zulu and Malik at first had a preliminary look around their enclosure.
"Now they are starting to look at it in more detail and investigating different vegetation and rubbing through things," she said.
"We still have a week or two until they are completely settled in. We are 90 per cent of the way there."
