A large scrub fire is now under control after it broke out in the Central Otago town of Clyde this afternoon near a section of State Highway 8.
Police say the fire caused delays on the highway, with smoke blowing over the road and affecting motorists.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS that the fire was about two kilometres in size during its peak and that six fire appliances and a helicopter attended the scene.
Police say they have left the area and SH8 and Springvale Road are operating as normal.
