The Weekend Herald reported the 16m by 4m hole was discovered in August 2016 and since October 2016, it has doubled.
Ferry 'prop wash' is believed to be the cause of the hole following the relocation of the Pier 1a ferry berth closer to the Ferry Building.
Auckland Transport chief executive David Warburton told the Weekend Herald it posed no public safety risk.
AT's $1 million worth of repairs is expected to start next month and be completed before the summer holidays, according to the Weekend Herald.
It is currently unknown how the immediate work will affect ferry services, including any changes to berthing procedures.
