Kiri Nathan was among one of the 20 Wahine Toa members who exclusively met Obama during his time in New Zealand.

She weaved a korowai and her husband carved a ponamu to gift to the former President of the United States.

"This piece represents various communities and indigenous peoples coming together with a foundation and support system," Ms Nathan explained.

Fashion Designer, Kiri Nathan sits down to talk with Marae about how it went.

"The white feathers through the middle represent Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud, so that he's always connected to us here."

The speical pieces were gifted to him on behalf of the Wahine Toa Network as they shared an intimate brunch in Auckland's CBD on Friday morning.

The women were asked about what they were doing within their communities to add value and how.

Ms Nathan said Mr Obama asked the questions for inspiration for the Obama Foundation back in America.
