"At first I wasn't as comfortable because breasts have always been sexualised," the 27-year-old says.

Kiwi model, TV personality and new mum Lou Tyson says she is comfortable breastfeeding in public after getting used to thinking about it as a natural thing to do.

Tyson, 27, who is signed with 62 Models management agency and currently works for Māori TV, spoke to TVNZ1's Te Karere about her changed views on breastfeeding.

"At first I wasn't as comfortable because breasts have always been sexualised, they're such a sexual thing. From my experience men they like breasts.

"For me becoming a mother I even had to change my mindset and be like the breasts are for feeding and now I can just pull my breast out anywhere and feed my baby," Tyson says.

She also recounted a humourous story involving her partner and breastfeeding.

"They say to be discreet and put a cover over your baby's head and my partner went to do that out of respect for the environment we were in and I pulled it off and put it back over his head.

"I was like how would you feel if you were eating your kai and there was something covering your head!"

Tyson's comments come after a recent University of Auckland study found that 75.3 per cent of New Zealanders support women breastfeeding in public.
