A brain tumour forced Professor Louise Nicholson to retire, but research led by her for years could allow people in wheelchairs to walk again.

Next year, human trials will begin to see if the scientific research led by professor Louise Nicholson will allow people in wheelchairs to walk again.

The Kiwi professor will be watching with the rest of the world to see the outcome of years of work.

She’ll be watching, not leading the research after a cruel twist of fate forced Ms Nicholson to retire early.

After suffering from debilitating headaches, Ms Nicholson was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

But as TVNZ1 Sunday’s Tania Page found when interviewing the professor, her story is one of determination, inspiration and big love.
