Kiwi farming couple trade gumboots for dancing shoes and head to top competition in Australia

December 7, 2017

Dan and Kirsten Wilks are dairy farmers in the Bay of Plenty.

A Bay of Plenty couple are breaking the stereotypical image of the Kiwi farmer by letting their hair down after a hard day's slog to show off some nifty dance moves.

Dan and Kirsten Wilks are dairy farmers in the Bay of Plenty as well as being professional dancers.

The fact they're farmers tends to cause disbelief when they tell fellow dancers about their day job.

"They see us glammed up, no, no way, no you're not," Ms Wilks said.

The couple teach local classes and are in training to head off to the Australian Nationals.

They hope to one day win NZ titles in ballroom vogue and latin, but won't be giving up farming anytime soon.
