On a back country road just north of Ashburton, another racer attempted to become the fastest rider in the country which meant topping the magical 200 mile an hour mark on a public road.

Legendary speedster Burt Munro knew how to go fast. The Kiwi motorcycle racer set a number of world records - one of which still stands.

But yesterday afternoon on a back country road just north of Ashburton, another racer attempted to become the fastest rider in the country.

To do that, Phil Garratt would have to top the magical 200miles/hour mark – or 321.8km/h - on a public road.
