Kiwi children leading the way with ban on single-use plastic bags

Primary school students have been at the forefront of the change to how we carry our shopping home.

A major milestone for some of our youngest environmentalists is just around the corner when the ban on single-use plastic bags officially comes into force.

Primary school children have been at the forefront of the change to how we carry our shopping home.

For young environmentalist Kate Turnbull the single-use plastic bag ban is a victory. The nine-year-old was just one of several school children who wrote to the Government last year wanting to get rid of single-use plastic bags.

While supermarkets have already stopping using them, from 1 July, the ban becomes official.

Rule-breakers could face fines of up to $100000.
