Kind-hearted Waikato person offers to reimburse Belgium hitchhiker robbed at knife-point

October 21, 2017

A kind Waikato resident has offered to help a Belgium hitch hiker who had their cash stolen at knife point last week in Matamata.

Detective Sergeant William Loughrin said the resident wanted to remain anonymous, but wanted to reimburse the tourist.

"They contacted police with their kind offer wanting to ensure that the victim leaves New Zealand knowing that most Kiwis are not like the person who attacked him," Sergeant Loughrin said.

Police are still searching for two men believed to be involved in the robbery, who are in their early 20s and were driving a red Nissan Primera.

They are believed to have links possibly in Kawerau.

"This was a cowardly attack which has changed the victim's perspective of New Zealand forever," Sergeant Loughrin said.
