Keep the raincoat handy! Much of NZ in for a drenching in the coming days

Heavy rain is on the way for parts of New Zealand, with rainfall accumulations possibly reaching warning levels in some areas.

MetService forecasts a rain band heading towards the upper North Island, with rain forecast to fall between Auckland and Taihape and along the West Coast of the South Island tomorrow. 

On Thursday rain will spread to most of the country with heavier falls possible for some parts, especially in the Eastern Bay of Plenty until Friday morning. 

There is also high confidence rainfall will also reach warning levels for Westland on Thursday. 

Southeast gales, heavy rain and heavy snow is expected in the eastern areas of the South Island on Friday, and southerly gales are predicted in the North Island.
