Judith Collins on the rise for preferred PM, hot on Simon Bridges heels in latest poll

Judith Collins says National Party leader Simon Bridges has her support at this morning’s caucus meeting.

National MP Judith Collins' popularity is on the rise in the latest 1 NEWS Colmar Brunton poll, landing just one per cent lower than National leader Simon Bridges for preferred Prime Minister. 

The latest poll shows Mr Bridges stagnating on seven per cent as preferred prime minister, while Ms Collins rose to a close six per cent from five in October's poll. 

The latest 1 NEWS Colmar Brunton Poll shows the National Party bounce back.

Mr Bridges told 1 NEWS the most recent figure was "not surprising given we've come through some very tough issues".

Mr Bridges said what mattered was the party vote, "that’s what determines the prime minister".

Ms Collins said her rise in preferred prime minister was not a topic that had come up.

"My view is that I support the leader, I support the caucus and the party."

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern dipped down to 39 per cent from 42. Winston Peters remained on four per cent as preferred Prime Minister and John Key, despite leaving politics in 2017, gained two per cent support.

Interviewing took place from November 24 to November 28, with 1,008 eligible voters contacted either by landline or mobile phone. The maximum sampling error was ±3.1 per cent at the 95 per cent confidence level.
