Towards the end of today's emotional service to Jonah Lomu, MC John Campbell made a poignant tribute thanking Lomu's widow Nadene and mother Hepi for "sharing him with us for the last time."
Mr Campbell spoke of the great sense of loss for everyone present and watching from afar.
"But your life was with Jonah, and on this very public occasion yours is a deep and personal grief for a husband, a soulmate and the father of your two fine sons.
"Nadene thankyou for sharing him with us one last time.
"Hepi, Jonah's mum, with Jonah's uncle sitting proudly beside you, thankyou for sharing your brilliant boy with the world one last time. Thank you Hepi."
The tribute followed a performance by New Zealand band Ardijah, before Lomu's casket was carried to a waiting hearse amidst a series of rousing hakas.
"Nadene and Hepi, Brayley and Dhyrelle, the Quirks, and the Lomus, our Jonah was first and foremost your Jonah, and we know how much you must all be hurting today," concluded Campbell.
