Jack Tame: Many terror attack and 2011 earthquake victims were new Kiwis in Christchurch to make a better life

March 20, 2019

Five days after the mass shootings Tame reflected on the similarities between the people killed in the two tragic events.

Those who lost their lives in the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and the March 15 terror attacks at two mosques in the city died "in pursuit of a better life", Jack Tame said as he reflected on Friday's tragedy.

"There is a similarity, actually, to those who were killed in the Christchurch earthquakes, the Breakfast host told the show from Christchurch this morning.

"And that is that so many of the people who were killed on Friday, and so many of the people who were killed in the Christchurch earthquakes were relatively new New Zealanders."

Tame went on to say many victims from both events "were people who come to Christchurch to make a new life – in pursuit of a better life – they had come here to settle with their families, and that was something that affected many of those who were killed in the Christchurch earthquakes, and indeed, many of those who were killed on Friday."

Fifty people were killed the March 15, 2019 mosque terrorist attacks.

In the February 22, 2011 earthquake 185 people lost their lives.
