Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern opened today's Question Time in Parliament by officially congratulating Kate Middleton and Prince William on the birth of Royal baby Louis last week.

Ms Ardern opened the session in the House this afternoon with a short speech acknowledging the birth of the new Royal heir.

"Along with many people around the globe New Zealanders have witnessed and celebrated the joy that the Duke and Duchess have clearly found with their children.

"I am very pleased to lead the House's congratulations on the birth of a third child to this close knit family," the Prime Minister said.

Ms Ardern then went on to outline the official gifts sent to Prince Louis including a handwoven blanket made from New Zealand wool, featuring a design of manuka flowers and seed pods.
