Jacinda Ardern to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace next week

The PM will meet Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in London on April 19

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will meet the Queen in a private audience at Buckingham Palace next week.

The meeting will take place next Thursday (April 19) during Ms Ardern's trip to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Speaking to 1NEWS today Ms Ardern described next week's meeting as "a nice chance to meet".

"Proper etiquette in these circumstance aren't things I've been well trained in in the past so I've got a bit of a cheat sheet but I'm assured if you get these thing wrong they're very forgiving," she said.

In a statement Ms Ardern said: "I am grateful that Her Majesty is taking the time to meet with me in what is an incredibly busy week for her as Head of the Commonwealth."

"This will be my first meeting with Her Majesty so I'm very much looking forward to sharing this government's vision for New Zealand and our priorities."

Ms Ardern will also meet with Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, on Wednesday at Clarence House.

The Prime Minister departs for Europe on Friday 13 April and spends a day with New Zealand athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

In Europe she will meet the President of France Emmanuel Macron in Paris, German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
