'It's quite possible we'll announce whatever we're going to do on TV1 to teach you guys a lesson' - Winston Peters teases reporter

October 10, 2017

The NZ First leader was as feisty as ever, before heading into post lunch negotiations this afternoon.

NZ First leader Winston Peters today issued a teasing threat to a Newshub journalist that he would announce his coalition decision on TV1 after being questioned about where he lived.

Entering the lifts on his way to another negotiation session in Wellington, Mr Peters was asked by Newshub reporter Lloyd Burr if he actually lived in Whananaki in Northland.

Burr said he had asked the wife of Mr Peters' brother, Ian, about his place of residence. Burr told Mr Peters that he was informed the NZ First leader lived in Auckland.

Mr Peters, with a large grin across his face, denied the suggestion, and offered a playful threat to Burr at the personal nature of the enquiry.

"She wouldn't have said that," said Mr Peters. "Don't make it up as you go along."

And with the lifts closing on him, Mr Peters said: "You know, Mr Burr, it's very quite possible I will announce whatever we're going to do on TV1 and teach you guys a lesson.

"You've been acting like a bunch of clowns."

Mr Peters is set to announce on Thursday which major party he has decided to form a coalition government with.

Social and economic progress have continued to be constant themes through coalition talks.

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern went into her meeting with Mr Peters this morning with chocolate wheatens and ginger nuts, and left the over two hour meeting suggesting social change was a focal point, said 1 NEWS political editor Corin Dann.

National met with the NZ First negotiating team at 12.30pm today having had two meetings yesterday.
