'It's pretty cool' – Invercargill librarians mimic Kardashians in quirky marketing campaign that's gone viral

A satirical take on the Kardashians has seen the group go viral.

A campaign to promote the Invercargill Library is turning a bunch of librarians into internet sensations.

A clever bit of online marketing by them has created a satirical version of a famous US magazine cover of the Kardashians.

Quiet, unassuming Invercargill librarians now replace the reality TV family in their positions on that cover, and it's generated over three quarters of a million hits since beginning its viral journey since last Saturday.

It was created in between their daily duties like cataloging ordering and shelving books.

"It is so amazing seeing something that you've made yourself be posted around the world, it's a pretty cool feeling, (I'm a) little bit anxious," library content manager Kayla Davidson laughs.

The broader New Zealand librarian community is also getting in on the action with another mock Kardashain magazine cover coming out from Upper Hutt library today.

"It's awesome, just anybody talking about libraries is great," Invercargill library manager Bonnie Major said.

And it's not the first time the Invercargill Library has dabbled in some creative social media promotions.

There's been parodies of movies and even librarians reading mean tweets recently.
