It's October and for those in Taranaki that means rhododendrons are hitting full bloom, with thousands of people set to flock to the region over the next few weeks.
Popular feature Pukeiti Garden will be at the top of many to-do lists at the Rhododendron and Garden Festival, with gardeners Andrew and Lyn spending more than 60 years combined tending to it.
"It's definitely a journey to get here, but it's part of the magic," Andrew says.
The rhododendron sanctuary is nestled in dense native New Zealand rainforest and the world has certainly been taking note.
Pukeiti was recently picked by a top notch Chelsea Flower Show judge as second best garden in the world.
"I was astounded and thrilled because he looked at it not as an ordinary botanical garden, but as something different," says Lyn.
That difference coming in its unique blend of native and exotic plants offering a different view from every vantage point.
"If you voted for a Labour Maori MP, pat yourself on the back! You now have 7 Māori MP's from Labour who will sit in opposition for 3 years and will be able to do absolutely NOTHING!!
