Inspiring teen couple combine parenthood with building a future

Harmony and Shaun are thriving in education, as well as looking after young Te Amorangi.

Teen couple Harmony and Shaun are thriving by combining their professional life as well as looking after their baby Te Amorangi.

The Christchurch couple were 16 and 17 when they found out they were pregnant.

Shaun had a shocked but happy response to the news, while Harmony said, 'I cried, I was so scared."

Christchurch's Haeata Community Campus embraced Te Amorangi, encouraging the couple to bring him to school and also offering Shaun a job.

"We look at it more as a sense of family, the broader Haeata whanau. I don't think it could have been any other way," Haeta staff member Adele Tikau says.

Harmony is training towards Police college while Shaun works as a teacher aide.

"When they see that we're busy they offer to hold him and look after him for us," Harmony said.

Harmony will soon take on Police College and baby Te Amorangi will become mobile but with Shaun's help Harmony says it'll be fine.
