Inside Parliament: Auckland regional fuel tax will make driving in Super City more expensive but motorists shouldn't complain

May 4, 2018

This week we discuss the regional fuel tax, which combined with the National fuel tax will see Aucklanders paying 20 cents more a litre for petrol.

This week on the Inside Parliament podcast, the 1 NEWS political team debate the merits of the Auckland fuel tax which has been the target of a concerted negative campaign by the National Party.

Auckland motorists will now face an 11.5 cent per litre fuel tax, but 1 NEWS political editor Jessica Mutch and reporters Katie Bradford and Andrea Vance were all in broad agreement the tax was a necessary levy to fund the city's infrastructure projects.

"If you choose to live in Auckland now you know you're going to be paying extra for your petrol but you know it's going to something you're most likely to use," Bradford said.

"If you live in Auckland you do tend to drive around various parts of it and whatever road it goes on you will get the benefit."

1 NEWS Political Editor Jessica Mutch and Political Reporters Katie Bradford & Andrea Vance discuss fuel taxes, Amazon tax and the budget.
