Identity of man accused of decapitating a Petone pensioner revealed

Eugene Baker, is accused of decapitating Francis Tyson, 71, on November 30, 2018.

The identity of the man accused of decapitating a Petone pensioner can be revealed as Eugene Baker.

The 41-year-old appeared in the High Court in Wellington this morning.

Justice Robert Dobson said Baker is remanded in custody and will appear on May 1 for a review of the case.

Francis Tyson, 71, was found decapitated at a Housing New Zealand complex on Jackson St on November 30 last year. 

Baker is also charged with wilful damage and possessing drugs for sale and supply. 

A trial for Baker is not likely to take place until February 2020, Justice Dobson said.
