Hundreds feel early morning 4.0 magnitude earthquake near Christchurch

Hundreds of people have felt a 4.0 magnitude earthquake east of Christchurch this morning.

The quake, classifed as "weak" by GeoNet was centred 30km south of Oxford and struck at 6.34am.

The earthquake was felt widely in Christurch and the surrounding area, with 914 people registering they'd felt the shake on GeoNet's website.
