Horror road toll rises again as six-year-old boy dies when ute plunges down bank in central North Island

A six-year-old boy has died after a ute plunged down a bank in the Rangitikei District in the central North Island this afternoon.

It raises the road toll to 93 since January 1, 2018. 

Police say the crash happened just before 2.15pm on Turakina Valley Road, between Kauaekeke Road and Bald Hill Road.

Three people from the vehicle were transported to Wanganui Hospital by road. 

One person in the vehicle was winched out with the assistance of a helicopter, and flown to hospital.

Police say they cannot at this stage confirm their injury status.

There were no other vehicles involved and the circumstances of the crash will be investigated.
