A homicide investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at a property near Tauranga last night.

The man was found at an address on McLaren Falls Road at Omanawa.
Police were called to the property at about 10pm on Monday after a report of a person being injured.

Police said the man was dead when they arrived.
Caitlin Houghton, who lives nearby, told 1 NEWS she heard a gunshot just before 10pm, but didn’t think much of it as residents often hunt in the area.
She says it’s “weird” how many incidents have happened in the area, including a double-homicide last year and an explosion.
One person is helping police with their investigations, which are continuing.
