Homicide investigation launched after three-month-old baby girl dies of 'non-accidental' injuries in Porirua

Police have launched a homicide inquiry following the death of a three-month-old baby girl in Wellington last Tuesday.

It comes after a post-mortem and scene examination, Detective Senior Sergeant Kevan Verry said in a statement. 

Information gathered indicated the baby died of non-accidental injuries in Porirua on November 13.

A 22-year-old Porirua man has been arrested and is facing one charge of male assaults female and assault on a child.

He will appear in the Porirua District Court today.

The investigation is ongoing and police are working closely with the baby's family to confirm further facts.

Police say they are committed to supporting the family and providing answers for them following the tragedy.
