A scrub fire has caused evacuations in Dunedin this morning, although residents have since been allowed to return home.
The Fire Service were called to the Kaikorai Valley Road area just before 3am.
Four crews attended and managed to get the fire quickly contained.
Fire and Emergency NZ assisted police with precautionary evacuations. It’s not known how many homes had to be evacuated.
Fire crews will remain at the scene for some time dampening down hot spots.
