A new book with a LGBT theme is being hailed a success by Hollywood celebrity George Takei.

A group of Wellington writers is once again breaking the mold, producing a book called Raven Wild – the lead character of which is transgender.

In the book, a reckless young boy named Hawk transitions into a courageous young woman named Raven.

A top Hollywood executive from Marvel has recently said the world is ready for a gay superhero.

George Takei of Star Trek fame posted his support of the book to his 10 million Facebook followers.

"It’s amazing when your LGBT heroes and icons actually approve of what you do and support you it's a great feeling," says co-author Chaz Harris.

"I think we all feel proud, we grew up without any stories like this, and we know the impact of not seeing yourselves represented in media, so we're really just fixing the problem we had as kids and hoping future generations don’t go without that," he says.

The writers are currently fundraising to get the book distributed using crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter.

"If we exist in the world, and if under the law we have the right to live happily ever after, then we should in books," says Harris.
