Hit-and-run in Gisborne leaves two badly injured

Two men have been badly injured, one critically and one seriously, following a hit-and-run in Gisborne this morning.

The two men were out walking when they were hit by a vehicle at about 6.15am on Centennial Marine Parade between the Millennium Wall and Pacific Street, police said in a statement.

Both men were taken to Gisborne Hospital ICU, one in a critical condition and the other with serious injuries.

Police believe the vehicle was travelling along Centennial Marine Drive from the direction of the Gisborne Olympic Pool when the incident occurred, the statement said.

"The vehicle will have damage to its front including the bonnet and window screen areas."

The road has been closed while the scene is examined.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, has information about this vehicle, who saw any vehicles travelling in the area at the time of the crash, or who have noticed a vehicle with fresh damage is asked to contact police.
