High demand sees some Tip Top products pushed to back of production line

Kiwi summer - ice cream on beach

Those who have a taste for Tip Top ice cream may have some trouble locating their favourite flavour in the coming months, due to unforeseen demand caused by the unseasonably warm weather.

Fairfax reported Tip Top was having to re-prioritise production within the factory so more popular products like Trumpets, some Fruju flavours and vanilla ice cream would remain available.

However, that meant stocks of other products, including grapefruit and lemon Frujus and goody-goody gumdrops would be put at the back of the priority list.

Fonterra Brands sales director Tim Carter told Fairfax demand always increased over summer and they always planned for it, but the hot weather has seen demand skyrocket.

"Sunshine drives ice cream sales. It's created demand that we'd typically be carrying into January and February."

According to Mr Carter, there would not be a complete ice cream shortage, however there may be times people could not get the ice cream or ice block they wanted.

He said Tip Top were bringing in extra staff, working extra shifts and also sourcing more from their licensed third-party suppliers.
