'Help, help, I'm locked inside the chiller' - Auckland Subway employee's dramatic rescue

An Auckland Subway employee was dramatically rescued last night from the store's freezer after a customer heard banging and cries for help.

Amandeep Singh entered the Newmarket Subway hoping to enjoy a sandwich when he heard a loud banging sound and screams, Newshub reported.

The lone night shift worker had become trapped in the chiller and could not escape.

"The girl was screaming 'help me help me, I am locked inside the chiller'," Mr Singh said.

"Initially I thought that someone was watching a movie, but then I heard the knocking sound."

Mr Singh called his wife, who was waiting outside in the car, and the pair opened the door to find a hysterical young women.

"Thank you very much, I was so scared. It's been two hours I was in there," the woman said in a video of the incident, recorded by Mr Singh.

"I decided to record the video just in case it was not a fake call, or if Subway people accuse us of entering the premises."

A Subway spokesperson said it was "fortunate" a customer was able to help, while the employee will be returning to work on Wednesday.
