How to have 'that' chat with your kids about porn

Porn nowadays is everywhere and former sex ed teacher Jo Robertson says "it is now harder to avoid than to come across".

"All the international data says that the majority of teenagers have seen pornography," she told TVNZ 1's Seven Sharp.

The creator of the Light Project, a toolbox to tackle the porn problem, she insists having the delicate conversation with our kids is more simple than we think.

Some tips: Breathe, take a deep breath.  Team-up, pick the best person to have that conversation.  Be unshockable, be prepared for them to explain what they have seen.  Engage, learn about the issue before having the conversation and avoid words with negative connotations as that brings shame and guilt, causing conversations to shut down.

She also says it is also better to address it earlier than later.
