An 11-year-old girl has received critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle at a pedestrian crossing in Hamilton this morning.
The driver of the ute, which hit the girl around 8.13am, is cooperating with police. But authorities are asking that anyone who witnessed the incident come forward.
A section of Morrinsville Road, near Berkley Middle School in Hillcrest, has been partially closed as the serious crash unit examines the area.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The incident is another reminder that motorists need to take extra care when driving near school zones, said Inspector Marcus Lynam.
