Hamilton man's lucky numbers help dreams come true after taking home $6.3m Powerball

A Hamilton man's lucky numbers have helped his dreams come true after scooping up the $6.3 million Powerball in last Wednesday's Lotto draw.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the winning ticket from the Glenview Centre Lotto and Post, but said he "wasn't in too much of a hurry" to find out who the winner was.

The man, describing the moment he realised he had won, said, "The numbers jumped out at me – there they were, all lined up on the first line. I couldn't believe my eyes — it just seemed so unreal".

"It was such a rush of emotions; I think my blood pressure definitely went up a few notches.

"Even though I checked the ticket hundreds of times, it's not until you hear that winning music go off that you actually believe it's true. I walked out of that store smiling ear to ear."

He said he chose the winning numbers using a special method from a TV show he had watched around 10 years ago.

"In the show, they talked about how your birthdate could be used to create lucky numbers. Something about it stuck with me and a couple of months ago, I decided to give it a try on my Lotto ticket."

He said he'll be sitting on the enormous cash prize for a while before deciding what to do with it.

"This win has given me the financial freedom I never thought I would have. I can now buy my first house and use the winnings to help others.

"I feel incredibly blessed — it really feels like a dream come true."

The Glenview Centre also has its own stroke of luck - the man's win marks the second Powerball win in less than 12 months.
