October 23, 2017

A woman was fatally shot Greymouth yesterday, devastating people in the West Coast town.

Police are still hunting for the person who fatally shot a mother in the West Coast town of Greymouth.

The woman was shot at a house in Marsden Road yesterday afternoon, sparking an Armed Offenders Squad call out and an appeal for the public to report suspicious activity.

Police say the victim has yet to be identified, but believe her to be Hayley Williams, 43.

They have also said they would "like to urgently speak" with George Sean Warren, 45. They warned he may be armed and should not be approached.

Any sightings of him should be reported to 111 immediately. He is described as Maori, of medium to solid build, 177cm talkk with short or shaved hair.

Police say the search continues for the suspect in the fatal shooting.

Earlier this morning, police said the vehicle the alleged offender is believed to have used when leaving the property has been found.

An associate of the accused is helping police with their enquiries.

A scene guard was in place at the property and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later today, police said in a statement.
