Greg Boyed's widow sings in touching 'thank you' video acknowledging 'huge support' following broadcaster's death

The widow of TVNZ broadcaster Greg Boyed has posted a touching video message on social media, thanking family, friends and the public for their "huge support" following his death last August.

Greg Boyed, who was 48, died suddenly while on holiday in Switzerland with his wife Caroline Chevin, who's a Swiss singer, and their three-year-old son. Greg's family said he had battled depression.

Ms Chevin's video, accompanied by a written message and posted on Facebook last night, is the first time she has spoken publicly since Greg's death.

She begins the video by singing, "Baby come fly with me - from way up, high we can see. The world is full of wonders and the biggest one is you. So come on in, fly with me, my baby."

Ms Chevin says she wasn't sure if she could keep going with her music, but this was one of her new songs that she's written for "our little boy, and it's become a song for Greg as well and for you out there".

"Kia ora and hi everyone. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone out there for the huge support you've give to us, people who didn't even know Greg, don't know us, for all the cards, for the lovely words, for your thoughts, for your help, family and friends, like, you are just amazing," Ms Chevin says.

"We have been so blessed with you out there. And it's time for me to say thank you. We couldn't have done it without you so thank you so much," she continues, becoming emotional as she delivers her message.

"And we wish you - a Merry Christmas I want to say - no, a happy new year and a year full of love and good health."

Ms Chevin blows a kiss towards the camera as she concludes her moving video.

The announcement of Greg Boyed's death in August drew tributes from across the worlds of media, politics and from some of the many thousands who had watched him on their TV screens over the past 25 years as a reporter and presenter.
