Greens put 'getting rid' of National above the environment, after teal-deal refused– Bill English

October 16, 2017

Mr English said the time has passed after calls for the Greens to consider the National Party were rebuffed.

National Party leader Bill English took a stab at the Green Party this morning, saying they valued knocking National out of power above the environment.

Mr English is amid ongoing negotiations with NZ First, and was asked on TVNZ1's Breakfast this morning if he would still consider talking with the Green Party.

"I think the time for that has passed, it was considered there for a while," he said.

"They made it pretty clear they value getting rid of the National Party more highly than they value the environment.

"So in that context there wasn’t much point of discussions."

Mr English was open to the idea of talking with the Green Party earlier this month, but the offer was rebuffed by Green Party leader James Shaw who ruled out working with National.

But he did admit if Bill English were to call he would listen to National's offer.
