'A great duo' - Viewers react to news Mike Hosking and Toni Street leaving Seven Sharp

December 14, 2017

The pair made the announcement on air tonight during the penultimate show of 2017.

Many viewers have been reacting with shock and sadness to the news that Mike Hosking and Toni Street are stepping down after four years co-hosting Seven Sharp.

Friday night's programme will be their last, the pair announced at the end of tonight's show.

Toni is cutting back on her weeknight work commitments to spend more time with her family, and Mike said the feelings were mutual.

"Given we started together we end together. It is also always good to leave on your own terms and at your own time, often a rare trick in media," he said.

Many viewers have commented on the announcement on the 1 NEWS Facebook page, addressing their tributes directly to Mike and Toni.

"Bit of a shock. thank you guys for your efforts," Maureen Stewart wrote. "Good luck with your future endeavours..have a fab xmas and a great year to come."

Mark Stanley Burling posted: "You guys have been a great team. I have enjoyed your various view points and friendly banter. Wish you both well."

While Marie McLeod wrote: "Very sad to see you both go but it’s all about timing good luck to you both I hope we will see you on our screens in different roles in the future."

And Phyllis Wakelin commented: "A great duo, loved all 4 years. Always a laugh, didn't know what's coming out next. Will miss you both immensely."

Carolyn Simmonds noted there were "lots of haters commenting".

"Sorry to see you both go. Bounced off each other really well and Mike was a real straight shooter who called it as he saw it. He didn’t ask people to agree," she added.

And Rachel Dailey pointed out those making negative commments "are still watching".

Seven Sharp will have a new presenting line-up when it returns next year after the holiday break and an announcement is expected in January.
