Government warns public sector bosses over massive pay hikes

December 13, 2017

State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes says there needs to be accountability and transparency.

The Government says it's looking at legislation to stop overly-large pay rises being given to state sector chief executives.

The move comes after a report by the State Services Commission found in three cases advice was ignored and CEO's were given pay rises above what was recommended.

One of these cases saw former New Zealand Superfund chief executive Adrian Orr given a 36 per cent pay rise, resulting in a million dollar salary.

State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes is backing the Government's stance saying there needs to be accountability and transparency.
