Government dodges massive payout over 2010 kiwifruit disease outbreak

The Court of Appeal has ruled the Government isn’t liable for losses related to imported pollen infected with plant disease PSA.

The Government has dodged what could have been a nearly half-billion-dollar payout to kiwifruit growers.

The Court of Appeal has ruled the Government is not liable for any losses related to imported pollen infected with the plant disease Psa.

In 2010, it swept through kiwifruit orchards, costing growers an estimated $450 million.

The Kiwifruit Claim group is vowing to fight on and says it'll take its case to the Supreme Court.
