Gisborne's main pipeline fixed but total outdoor water ban still in place

February 15, 2019

Contractors are in a race against time to get it fixed.

Gisborne’s main water supply pipeline has been fixed, but won't be running until mid-afternoon.

David Wilson from the Gisborne District Council says the hole was patched at 7:30am today.

Yesterday there was a leak in the pipeline which imposed a total outdoor water ban. This is still in place and will be until at least 3pm.

Mr Wilson says the reservoir still has water in it but levels are so low water restrictions are still in place to help buy time.

He says the issue now is the pipe has to be cleaned with 3000 cubes of water needing to go through the pipe which will take up to five hours.
