Girl, four, dies after incident involving rugby scrum machine in South Auckland

The victim’s family were at the rugby grounds when the tragedy took place.

A four-year-old girl has died following an incident involving a scrum machine at Manurewa Rugby Club in South Auckland. 

Emergency services were called at 6.35pm.

Victim Support is assisting the family of the deceased, who were present at the time.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and the death will be referred to the Coroner.

In 2009, the six-year-old niece of former All Blacks forward Keven Mealamu, Christina, died when she was crushed by a scrum machine.
