Further synthetic drug arrests following police operation in Porirua

November 17, 2017

A 34-year-old man has been arrested after police found synthetic drugs at an address in Porirua this afternoon.

The suspect will appear in Porirua District Court tomorrow facing charges of possessing psychoactive substances for sale.

A second man has been charged with possession of cannabis.

Sixty gram-sized bags of synthetic drugs were found at the address.

Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Martin, area manager investigations, says today's arrest was part of a wider operation aimed at stopping the sale and supply of synthetic drugs in the Porirua community.

“Police are absolutely committed to eradicating these drugs from our community and we will continue taking a hard line in terms of enforcement," Sgt. Martin said.

“However we also recognise that education is important and we are working closely with other agencies to ensure that all members of the community are well informed about the dangers of taking synthetics."

Earlier this month another property in Porirua's Cannons Creek was raided by police, with a man and woman arrested.
