Four men have been arrested following a gang-related incident in which shots were fired in Wairoa earlier this week.
Police launched an investigation after two shots were fired on McLean Street in the Hawke's Bay town about 11pm on Tuesday.
Officers today executed two search warrants, assisted by the Armed Offenders Squad.
Three men, aged 20, 24 and 28, were arrested and charged with various offences including assault with a weapon, wilful damage, aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm.
They are due to appear in court tomorrow - two in Gisborne District Court and one in Hastings District Court.
Another man, aged 23, was arrested on the night of the incident for possession of offensive weapons.
Wairoa CIB Sergeant James Keene says the incident and a number of events prior have been linked to gangs.
“Gangs carrying out such violent acts in our town will not be tolerated,” he said in a statement tonight.
“The community deserves to be safe and feel safe at all times.”
During the search warrants, police located and seized a shotgun.
