Four dead, several people injured after overnight vehicle crashes

Four people have died and three others have been injured in separate crashes overnight.

Three people died this morning in a crash in Hatepe, south of Taupō. 

The crash occurred at about 4.15am between a truck and a van. 

One further person was taken to Taupō Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say. 

The road is now partially open and motorists can expect some delays. 

In a separate crash, one person died in Canterbury overnight after their vehicle went off the road at about 10:50pm, police say. 

The incident happened on Old West Coast Road in Darfield. 

Two other occupants of the car were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other moderate. 

The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and police are investigating the cause of the crash.
