Four arrests after machete held to throat during brawl between Auckland school students

Four people have been arrested after a violent incident in West Auckland yesterday where a machete was held to a student's throat during a fight.

More than one video was put on Facebook of the incident yesterday, which took place on Stevies Lane in Henderson about 3.40pm, police said.

Comments and titles on the video suggest the students involved were from Kelston Boys' High School and Liston College.

Two students face off in the video, with one wielding a machete, before a student wearing a white shirt is punched in the face.

The shirtless machete-wielding student walks away, as does the student in white, but soon afterwards a third student enters the fight, hitting the student in white in the back of the head.

The attack sends the student in white to the ground, and the third student then punches and kicks him a number of times.

Police and ambulance staff attended, police said, and two people were arrested at the scene - both have been referred to Youth Aid.

Two weapons were also recovered at the scene.

A police spokesperson said they are "alarmed at the violent behaviour on display and have made a number of enquiries in relation to the identities of the main offenders involved."

Two 17-year-olds have also been arrested today, and both will appear at Waitakere District court at a later date.

Police Inspector Stefan Sagar said police will have an increased presence in the area in coming days to prevent any further incidents taking place.

"I want to reassure the community that Police will continue to investigate this incident and we will be talking with our partners, including local schools," Mr Sagar said.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Henderson Police on 09 839 0600 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Both Kelston Boys High School and Liston College have been approached for comment.
