Firefighters extinguish large blazes in neighbouring Auckland homes

A road has reopened after over 20 firefighters battled two neighbouring house fires in Auckland.

Two homes on Swaffield Road, in Papatoetoe, were "well involved" in fire when emergency services arrived on the scene at around 1.20pm, a Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1 NEWS.

Twenty-four firefighters battled the blazes at the two single-storey homes.

Police understand the fire started in a garden and spread from there.

Swaffield Road was closed while fireghters tackled the blaze.

There are no reports of any injuries.
