Finding Anzac family history is 'only going to get easier'

April 25, 2018

That’s according to Breakfast Reporter Andrew Macfarlane who sat down with TVNZ1’s Breakfast today

Finding Anzac's family history can often seem like a daunting task but TVNZ1's Breakfast reporter Andrew Macfarlane says it's 'only going to get easier' as everything becomes digitized.

"The reality is it is only going to get easier, a lot of records are being kept in libraries but everything is being digitized these days."

Mr Macfarlane says there are a lot of resources online including births, deaths and enlistment records.

Auckland Museums Online Cenotaph supplies all digitized enlistment records free of charge while also allowing new information to be contributed to it.

"Word of mouth is how a lot of information is passed down," he says. "So it's quite important that people have a look and put their information down."

Host Jake Tame says, "this is one of the real benefits of the digital age. In the past a lot of information and expertise might have been lost or else really difficult to find."

"If anyone is able to find this information, it's my generation...it's all second nature to us," says Mr Macfarlane.
