Final construction work will see West Coast's Waiho River bridge closed most nights in May

May 2, 2019

The new Waiho River bridge on the West Coast will be closed most nights in May for final construction work.

The bridge near Franz Josef reopened on April 13 after being out of action for two and a half weeks when the old bridge was washed away in severe flooding in March.

But starting next week, it will be shut between 9pm through until six in the morning, Sunday through to Thursday for the next three weeks.

It will be open all night on Friday and Saturday.

The closure is in place so timber planks can be laid over the bridge to provide a smoother journey.
