Family given 'worst possible news' as crash claims young woman's life

The name of a young woman who died after a two car head on collision north of Auckland this morning has been released.

Coral Jobsis, 23, was travelling along Whangaparaoa Road around 5.30am when the crash happened, police say.

A 26-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in the other car were taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries.

Ms Jobsis' family is being supported by Victim Support and police.

"Our thoughts are with the Jobsis family, who have received the worst news possible this morning, and their welfare is our priority," says Inspector Mark Fergus.

The Auckland Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the collision between a Honda Jazz and a silver Subaru station wagon.

The wreckage from the crash was scattered across the four lane road, forcing the closure of the road between Marellen Drive and Glenelg Road.

"Because of the location there was no option to allow traffic to be diverted around the scene via a footpath as there was a bank on one side and the road dropped down to a right-of-way street on the other side," said Mr Fergus.

There were significant delays for motorists, but the road has since been reopened.
